Today is International Day of the Girl Child. Today’s the day to recommit to lifting up girls everywhere.
It’s International Day of the Girl, but at She’s the First, girls are our number one priority every day. Our work, day in and day out, is listening to girls to identify the barriers to their agency and investing in solutions to help more girls choose their own future. As a result, they become the first women in their families to achieve amazing milestones—and they are never the last.
“I wish I could say 12 years led to bigger strides in ending child marriage, educating girls, eradicating gender-based violence, and increasing reproductive rights. Not yet. But I can tell you that in 12 years, I have seen a movement for girls’ education change into a revolution for their rights. ”
Here’s what has happened since last year:
On October 11, 2023, 12 girls in rural India had no teacher. Today, all of those girls have a teacher. Because she had support, Riya is now a college student on her way to becoming a teacher herself. That’s the transformation you support when you donate to She’s the First.
In the Peruvian Andes mountains, Maribel blazed a new trail for her family; through the mountains to a dorm and safe haven, she finally broke new ground as the first high school graduate in her family. Her sister will be the second. That’s the transformation you support when you donate to She’s the First.
In The Gambia, where many girls never get the opportunity to take the exams to graduate high school, Binta’s mentor stayed up with her all night studying so that she would pass, and she did. That’s the transformation you support when you donate to She’s the First.
